This feature request needs more visibility, and it should also be rolled into the projects feature. Let me explain:
Where the left-hand sidebar now just lists threads chronologically, the threads should have a tree-based UI that allows the user to expand the thread title in the sidebar and see a list of individual prompt/response pairs in the thread (if it is long, it can load a subset with “load more” at the bottom). Clicking the thread title would just load the thread at the most recent response as usual, but clicking any of the responses in the tree under each expanded thread would both open the thread and then jump to that response in the thread (preferably instantly, without scrolling).
And the way this is connected to the projects feature request is that if a user added a thread to a project, then the tree would just be two levels deep, with the project as the parent, which expands to show threads in the project, and with each thread being expandable to view individual prompt/response pairs in the thread.
I also would recommend rolling this into the projects feature because it is the second-most highly requested feature here, and it makes it more likely this feature would be implemented. It really should be the #1 most requested (at least #1 most prioritized) feature because the #1 feature request, mobile app, is both technically challenging as well as unnecessary (users can just add to Home Screen, and a mobile app adds no native features that are necessary).
While inside of a chat thread, it would be awesome if there was a right sidebar, like there is in a lot of documentation websites, that allows you to see the prompt history.
Sometimes our chats can get really long, this way we can easily just jump to the relevant prompt and see the response.
a right sidebar which store the index for all the questions asked in the chat, and redirects you to that part when clicked on it. i always wanted to have it but no ai chat bot has it yet, i was even planning to make an web extension for this. it would be a highly productive feature, and it’s really essential because going back to a particular question is really frustrating especially when your chat is too long.

Chat, let me know what you think of this.

This could work very similarly to the Outline section in VS Code, we’re kind of talking about the same UX problem so it would be interesting to take inspiration from that.

I came here to request something similar, just a simple ToC for singular lengthy responses that are already structured into six or seven main sections, so I can see them at a glance and skip around to the ones I needs without so much scrolling.

I def really want this. Basically it would be like the “Outline” view in Obsidian note app which is a hideable right-side navigation panel.
It would list each prompt I’ve submitted in the conversation. Each item in the list would display the first sentence (or an auto-generated short preview) of the prompt, similar to a document outline.
Some other ideas for it:
Hovering over an item reveals the full prompt in a tooltip.
Editing (right click menu item) the prompt manually to renaming the outline label without changing the original message. Also, another menu item could be “Generate new title” which would have AI generate a title based on what the prompt was instead of the default truncated first line of the prompt.
Deleting a prompt and/or the AI’s answer from the chat via the outline (right click menu item)
Clicking an item scrolls directly to that specific prompt in the conversation.
An icon (ex: a reply arrow) next to each item that jumps directly to the AI’s response instead of the prompt.
Highlight the currently visible section in the outline as you scroll.
Small icons indicating long responses, code blocks, or images.
Search/filter within the outline for quick retrieval.

Collapsable prompts and responses. Map for quick navigation, keyborad shortcuts to jump thru chat.
Clickable nodes on the side, line or in case of branching a tree.

I was planning on making a post and saw this
i got this thrown together, somthing like this i think would fit instead of having a full vs code minimap.
