Allow editing of AI messages
Often times the AI will get something almost right, and it can be helpful to simply correct their response and continue on with the conversation than try to point it out, hope it corrects it in the next response, and then hope it doesn’t misinterpret the original error.

Being able to fix a missing import or update a function name (that it got wrong) directly would save time and reduce back-and-forth. I’ve used this feature in other chat apps and found it made conversations much smoother.
This would be useful, especially in long chats where the models hallucinate, "needle in a haystack" problem. Think of each non-common variable or function name as a needle in the context, and see how it degrades. It’s better to fix it directly than have multiple fix prompts that keep the wrong and corrected names.

As my other issue was merged with this one: It would also be useful to edit any past message, without discarding / restarting the conversation from that point (for both user messages and AI messages). As mentioned by others, this was a great feature of AIStudio

This is a really cool idea.
Azure Mustard
Yeah something similar to canvas with chatGPT would be really nice

This would be amazing! We can do this through the Anthropic Console
https://console.anthropic.com/workbench and it is such a nice feature to have!

This! So much this! Basically only AI studio from Google (and Jeremy Howards SolveIT platform) has it and it is SO important!

I have been using this feature in AI Studio more often nowadays and it is decently useful. The AI might have gotten a version number, description text, or text formatting issue slightly wrong. It is much faster and cheaper to edit it in like 10 seconds rather than write a prompt for it for 8 seconds then wait a minute for the full response to regenerate if complex.

Also the ability to edit your past messages, without removing every message afterwards.
It would basically give you full arbitrary control over the context.
Kind of like how you can do this in SillyTavern.

Delete button for message
Would be nice to delete specific message from the chat context. Like it’s implemented in Google AI Studio. I know you can edit message and it will regenerate the response, but in some cases delete button would be nice.

I find delete button on any message very useful in google ai studio, because then i can create branch of the chat and control set of messages in it for further runs of the model

Yeah I often need to go off on a semi-related sub-tangent and then back to the main “conversation” but that tangent is just noise after it’s done. I wish I could delete both User and Agent messages from a conversation to clean it up.
E.g. I was asking about the best Deep Fried Turkey recipe and in the middle of the convo I asked “Wait is it safe to use my wireless thermometer in the oil?”, well after that was answered I wished I could just remove that message so that the regular recipe convo was easier to scan/scroll through without that in the way.

I’d also add that maybe a “Hide Message” might be a bit nicer, like it would just collapse the message (And remove it from context) unless I re-show it.
