Usage meter constantly fluctuates
I sent a couple messages using Claude 4.6 sonnet and opus and my usage went down to 96%. I check again and it went back to 99%.
After I send a message and let 4.6 opus respond, my usage limit states 96%, I refresh it goes back to 99%. I open a new tab and enter settings, it’s back to 99%.

The meter only automatically updates on ~30 second interval. You would need to refreshto guarantee latest state.
When a message is sent, some balance is “reserved” then after it completes ad we know the real cost, a correction is applied. This can result in the meter going up and down as requests go from in-progress to complete.

Sometimes the reserved balance makes it such that you cannot send messages, even though your final result will not have quite that impact on the meter. I am having quite some problems with this as I mainly use reasoning models. At low values, i.e. 30% or so I sometimes cannot send messages at all, and if I manage to send a message it goes to 1% and then comes back to about 28%.
