Out-of-Order Responses

I started a thread.

  1. First message (message 1): Initial request for conclusions.

  2. Second message (message 2): Request to shorten the response to 500 characters (sent after receiving the first, overly long response).

The issue is that the responses are out of order:

  • message 1

  • message 2

  • response 2 (Response to message 2 - the 500-character request)

  • response 1 (Response to message 1 - the original conclusion request)

    This also happens to me a lot (about once per 5-10 chats). Though the structure are a bit different. My chat starts going up instead of down:
    - message 2 (appeared after message/response 1 pair)
    - response 2 (appeared after message/response 1 pair)
    - message 1
    - response 1
    And the pattern continues to be like that. The cause for me is, i think, switching models or/and file uploads

    I have not been able to repro this with the same conditions, but will have the team investigate further .

    Update: I’ve also managed to reproduce the answer being rendered before the question using Gemini 2.5 Pro. I’m also outside of the US if it’s relevant.

    This also happened to me.

    There was an intermixing of:
    1. Switching models
    2. Accidentally running an empty message using the main text input, while having the edit prompt text input open
    3. Cancelling LLM generation for the main text input
    4. Actually retrying the prompt to edit (which was still in text input mode).
    5. Royally messed up ordering of messages.
