For those of you asking for this, would it be sufficient for it to be only visible to you, not to the models you are chatting with?

We have not been able to come up with a way that exposes this metadata to the models without them consistently doing undesirable things

    • Aqua Reindeer

Yes, my use case is entirely for personal information about message metadata. I don't really want or need the agent to have that info.

i think it would be good if it was only visible to you, id personally use it to figure out if prompt cache expired or just to know when i sent something

I'd like to see this alongside the note of which model generated the message

In past chats the timestamps can provide useful context

+1 timestamp and other meta data would be super useful

My use case, I bill hourly for my work, it would be great to know what time I started a chat because consulting an LLM is often my first action to begin a task. I can find the info in

https://t3.chat/settings/history which is useful, but having it in the chat would be more convenient

    • Aqua Reindeer

      Absolutely. Same use case here.

+1 ability to show in quick settings pane. I don’t need to see it all the time, but I do often look at when I sent a prompt in other tools for meta/life reasons (like figuring out when I worked on something). I often check my cursor usage for this info. It is a little thing, but I’ve gone looking for it twice recently and would love to have it.

    +1, atleast

For me it would be enough, if it would only show it in the md file (when exporting). Crucial would be a timestamp of every message.
Sadly in the history, you can only see, when the chat was created and when was the last message.
Some universities now require to atleast hand in a mini Log, where you write down which model you used, when (date only) and how it was used.

Besides t3 chat I still use ChatGPT for longer lived projects and especially my main work tasks because of familiarity among co-workers who also all subscribe (especially when sharing chats). I definitely make use of the message time metadata info and the fact that this information is missing in t3 chat is often disappointing and makes time-tracking in projects for my side business (for which I use t3 chat) more difficult.

Would love to have a date for each chat, maybe displayed from right-click + details

    • Emerald Sprout

oh I just saw that we can see the date of each chat in parameters / history & sync

I’m also painfully aware of the importance of the conversation timing. I would presume the timestamp is likely stored somewhere, we just don’t have a way to see it. In any case, when a conversation is taking place, is also important for the context of the user, if not for the machine.

    It solves the following problems/questions:

    • When did I discuss this topic with the model?

    • What information did I have when I had the discussion with this model? because I learned about X on this X date/hour. And I can see I learned about that because the other chat I had with another model says so.

    • How much have I learned/grown since I had this conversation with this model? Am I structuring my prompts differently?

It’s like looking at the console and not knowing at which time I ran a certain command. It gives me a feeling of incompleteness it’s hard to describe, and is so easy to provide. Hell we already have stats for nerds, why can’t we put the timestamp among those?

Now, there’s probably the issue of “we’re not tracking your messages, that’s why we simply can’t put timestamps”. In which case we’re SOL. But creative problem solving is always the fun part, I guess.

Anyways, that’s my two cents. This is still a great product. Ty

This +1. I am writing something, there are 3 branches. Who know which branch is the last updated one without timestamps. This is essential.

    Please implement this, thanks!
