Loading indicator dots bounce forever, 'New Thread' spins forever

yesterday and today I’ve experienced this multiple times. Tried changing models which didn’t seem to matter. I’ll ask a question in a new chat, get the bouncing dots, get a spinner in the sidebar and nothing ever resolves.

Usually I also can’t cancel (nothing happens when I click the stop button) but yesterday it did cancel once and then show a bunch of response text (incomplete)
