Having to solve hCaptcha for every message

Recently, after I switched to the beta, I found the free tier of T3 Chat almost unusable. Every time I want to send a message, it loads for a few seconds before requiring me to solve an hCaptcha. This was never the case with any previous version of T3 Chat.

I get that the free tier is prone to abuse, but I do have an account so I'm already limited. Wouldn't it be possible to have me solve the captcha during account creation, or perhaps once a day, rather than for every single message?

    Sure, I use

    • Arch Linux (Kernel: 6.14.9)

    • Zen Browser (1.12.10b-2)

    • Mullvad VPN (doesn’t happen with VPN disabled)

    • uBlock Origin (still happens with adblocker disabled)

    I’m pretty certain, it’s just the VPN but not using it wouldn’t be an option for me.

      Ok, thank you for confirming.

      We are working on a solution to make the captcha only require verification less often (at most once per hour or similar) but good to know the triggering condition of the issue in your case. I now can also test with Mullvad to try to reproduce.

      I think the issue is probably a combination of factors, and using Linux + “non standard browser” + vpn ticks enough boxes for the captcha to be “unsure” if you are a person 🥲

        For what it’s worth, I mostly use Stockholm, Sweden and Frankfurt, Germany as VPN locations in Mullvad.

    Can you provide a bit more information about the following:

    • OS + version

    • Browser + version (Does this happen on all browsers for you?)

    • Do you use a vpn? (Does this happen with VPN disabled?)

    • Do you use an adblocker? If yes, which one? (Does this happen with adblocker disabled?)

      I am using Ad blocker

      But the problem still happens even with it turned off.

      I’m also having this issue — every single message triggers hCaptcha.

      • No vpn

      • Ublock Origin enabled

      • Running off of my iPhone’s hotspot on the Visible MVNO (which is owned by and runs on Verizon) (I think this is the culprit)

      It really sucks that it doesn’t just set a cookie to stop prompting me to solve a captcha for a while after one successful completion. I would gladly take aggressive rate limits in exchange!
