Files cannot be added to existing message

I can no longer add files to an existing message in the editor; I can only remove them. I must either branch off or start a new thread entirely if I dare to do this rather daunting and brave task. Though, oddly enough, I can add new files by drag-and-dropping instead of using the Attach button?
