What I would love is to have the little HUD like ChatGPT has, so I can access the LLM above my full-screen windows.

This is the main reason why I haven’t switched to T3 Chat, the ChatGippity desktop app keyboard shortcut to get the mini app / HUD is invaluable as it can be launched easily, floats above everything else, and resumes the last chat you had open.
If T3 Chat implements something like this, then I’d switch for sure.

Please make it something like a chat input box (auto-growing) widget in the middle of the window like “power toys run” or mac’s “spotlight” and NOT a full screen web UI by default like “Microsoft copilot” and these other. The whole point of a having a desktop app it to very quickly just get the short answer to your query and get back to whatever I was doing and only expanding the window if I want/need too. Also, it would be nice if I can bind it to my copilot key on the keyboard :), compatibility with that would be nice.

Just copy how the ChatGPT Mac app is doing it

Ability to use local models too would be awesome!

Will this be available on Linux and if so, will you package it for NixOS?

This would probably make MCP support much more straightforward to implement, too! Even if that turns out to be a desktop-only feature, it would be incredibly useful. https://feedback.t3.chat/p/feature-request-model-context-protocol-mcp-support

I know Theo has reservations about progressive web apps but this would be fine for me vs a full blown desktop app
Aquamarine Cookie
doesn’t really help with what was asked for here, you simply can’t make anything like the chatGPT overlay using a PWA
I was gonna say that. I think that makes desktop app not needed. Let Theo focus on more important stuff!

Please don’t forget about us Linux users when making the desktop app. I would love to use ideally without having to run it by proton on bottles

The hardest thing for me about giving up my chatgpt subscriptions is the native app’s ability to integrate with VSCode, Warp Terminal, and all of the JetBrains products.
Having a desktop app that supported these things would be a HUGE win.

Desktop App or Progressive Web App, just need an easier way to find t3Chat app
