Angle brackets getting lost

I work with SIP (Telecoms) messages quite often, where you have angle brackets quite often (< and >) which seem to get lost when the message is parsed.

For example, if I submit a message or get a response with the below text

<sip:phonenumber@hostname>;parameter1=value;parameter2=value

It won’t get shown as that, and will instead be shown as below

sip:phonenumber@hostname;parameter1=value;parameter2=value
